The Society recognises that a number of other local organisations do important work, for example helping to conserve the natural environment, preserving or enhancing buildings, providing community facilities, or fostering education. From time to time, it makes donations in support of such projects, where their achievement can be linked to the Society’s objectives.
Each year from its current account, the Society contributes towards the cost of such projects. Major donations (£500 and above) have been largely directed towards building projects, such as the Flavel, but smaller donations (from £50) have been made toward a wide range of initiatives.
Major donations in recent years have been to:
- The Flavel
- Townstal Community Hall
- St Barnabas Church redevelopment for Training for Life
- St Clement’s Church, Townstal, refurbishment of a Grade 1 Listed Building
- Setting up the RNLI Lifeboat Station in Dartmouth
- Dartmouth Green Partnerships new greenhouse appeal
- Dartmouth Community Bookshop
- Dartmouth Swimming Pool Fund
- Dartmouth Pre-School in South Ford Road
- DALAG to assist in establishment of the Diamond Jubilee Way
- LandWorks
- Publication of a book about Newcomen on the occasion of the tercentenary of his birth

Donation to Dartmouth Green Partnerships

The Dartmouth & Kingswear Society was delighted in 2018 to announce a recent donation of £1,000 to Dartmouth Green Partnerships for the Pyramid Community Greenhouse.
The Society’s Vice-President, Phil Charlesworth (centre), said: ‘The D&K is very pleased to be able to support local worthy causes such as this for the benefit of the community. It is one of our core activities’.
Chairman of Dartmouth Green Partnerships, Stevie Rogers (on the right), said: ‘We are very grateful for the support for the community greenhouse from the D&K Society and many others in Dartmouth. So far we have raised £33,000 towards the cost of around £100,000. A lot of work is being done behind the scenes to secure sufficient funding to progress this exciting project.’
