Landmark Achievements

Since its foundation, the Society has made many significant contributions to the local community in a variety of ways. The most import achievements are listed here:

1959founded by Christopher Milne, Col. Richard Webb and John Smith
1963published the Plan for Dartmouth, initiating the development of College Way
1968helped prevent demolition of Dartmouth's Old Market
1974landscaped and planted Crosby Meadow, Dartmouth
1978co-promoted Dartmouth's first entry to 'Britain in Bloom'
1985 onwardssearched for ways to build a community arts centre
1993 onwardslobbied for construction of the Dartmouth Sewage Treatment Plant
1996-2002helped prevent over-development at White Rock, Paignton
1999spun-off the Flavel Centre Project, leading to the opening of The Flavel in 2005
2000commissioned the first set of Blue Plaques in Dartmouth and Kingswear
2001helped improve the design of residential development at Dart Marina
2004established the Dartmouth Heritage Trail
2009Society's Fiftieth Anniversary
2009/2010campaigned against over-development at Noss Marina
2010/2011assisted in appraisal of Dartmouth and Kingswear Conservation Areas
2010/2011leading role in responding to Local Development Framework proposals
